Journal was founded in 1922 by a group of engineers. In Russia and the CIS "Explosion technology" is the only one peer-reviewed specialized periodical in the field of blasting.

Journal is produced under the name "Explosion technology" from 1932, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR N868 (22.12.1931).

By the decision of HAC Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, journal is included in the "List of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and publications, in which should be published basic scientific results of dissertations for the degree of doctor and candidate of sciences."

An important place in the journal is given to the theoretical foundations and the experimental methods of research in the field of blasting work. Articles on the mathematical methods and computer technology usage are published, as well as scientific and methodological developments in the investigation of the explosion and its impact on the environment.
