Issues concerning detonation velocity determination

Keywords:detonation velocity, inorganic oxidizer, maximum diameter, density of a charge

The paper presents the approaches to increase the accuracy of experimental detonation velocity determination. The computation method of detonation velocity evaluation for explosive compositions with high content of metal fuels and inorganic oxidizers is described. Experimental determination of detonation velocity of ammonit charges 79/21 showed poor correspondence of evaluated and experimental values for diameters of charges less than 120 mm. Besides, strong influence of a charge diameter and its shell weight on detonation velocity was revealed. It was concluded that the proposed method of calculation can be used for evaluation of commercial explosives detonation velocities in the charges with diameters that more than maximum diameter of detonation.
